Job Title: Summer Ranch and Cattle Drive Intern

Location: Various ranch locations for cattle drives, with off-weeks spent at the main ranch and/or cow camp.

Position Type: Seasonal Internship

Duration: Summer Season (May-October)

Job Description:

We are seeking motivated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Summer Ranch and Cattle Drive Interns. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of ranching, cattle driving operations, and the hospitality business. Interns will be involved in a wide range of duties on our guest ranch, including fence repair, animal care, landscaping, cattle handling, water tank maintenance, and general ranch labor.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist ranch hands with daily tasks such as fixing fences, feeding barn animals, moving and stacking of hay, and maintaining landscaping and yard areas.

  • Participate in packing up and moving camp equipment and supplies between ranch locations during cattle drives.

  • Work alongside experienced cowboys/cowgirls to ride on cattle drives, assist with herding, and doctoring cattle as needed.

  • Help maintain water tanks, ensuring they are filled and functioning properly to provide hydration for livestock.

  • Aid in the cutting and stacking of firewood for use during cattle drives and campfires.

  • Perform general labor tasks as assigned by ranch management, including cleaning, organizing, and other manual labor duties.

  • Embrace the opportunity to learn from seasoned 5th and 6th generation ranchers, gaining valuable knowledge and skills in the agricultural and livestock industries.

  • Assist cattle drive guests and staff as needed

  • And other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment.

  • Must be physically fit (able to bend/squat/carry/lift up to 50 pounds) and capable of participating in outdoor activities, hiking at a high elevation (9,000+ ft), and assisting with ranch chores or cattle drive tasks as needed.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, following instructions and collaborating with fellow interns and ranch staff.

  • Interest in ranching, agriculture, and cattle management, with a desire to learn and develop new skills.

  • Comfortable working around large animals (e.g., cattle, horses) and willing to assist with their care and handling.

  • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment commonly used in ranching operations is preferred but not required.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and responsibilities based on the needs of the ranch and cattle drives.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, including heat, cold, rain, and rough terrain.

  • Willing to jump in and assist anyone in need, either another staff member or guest, without being asked.

  • Able to receive constructive feedback and implement effectively.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required for transportation between camp locations.

  • Must be polite, courteous and hospitable, afterall hospitality is a huge part of this job.
